Water works

The concept of ‘Water works’ is to give all owners of Newfies, Landseers and Leonbergers in Belgium* the opportunity to put themselves and their dogs through a professional and disciplined training programme which will:

•    Build on their dog’s fundamental desire to be obedient and its natural talent in water.
•    Train you how to educate your dog.

The result will be an inseparable combination of owner and dog – just like the training of avalanche-dogs and dogs that are used in disasters.

As part of its training to help to develop its confidence, your dog will come into contact with other dogs and strangers and through an acquired calmness, obedience and irreproachable behaviour in company,  it will save you much unpleasantness and increase your dog’s chances of a positive evaluation when it participates in dog shows – and thereby enhance its career as an exhibition dog.

The programme could also be a starting point for other disciplines in dog sports as you start to believe more in your ability as an educator.

The dog should not be considered as a worker for rescue actions, but through its capacity, instinct and urge as a valuable help to serve MANKIND.

The discipline is based on the following:

•    Its obedience.
•    The water instinct of the dog.
•    The teamwork between you as trainer and your dog.
